Tremont Waters Named G League Rookie of the Year

Boston Celtics guard Tremont Waters has been named the NBA G League's Rookie of the Year for the 2019-20 season. In 36 games with Boston’s G League affiliate, the Maine Red Claws, he averaged 18 points, 3.2 rebounds, 7.3 assists, and 1.9 steals in 33.8 minutes per game.

The 51st overall pick of the 2019 NBA Draft out of LSU, Waters split his time between the Celtics and the Red Claws this year as a two-way player. The point guard appeared in 10 games with the Celtics, posting 3.3 points, 0.9 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 8.9 minutes per contest.

Waters became the fourth Red Claw in franchise history to earn Rookie of the Year honors, joining Abdel Nader, Tim Frazier, and DeShawn Sims. In addition, Waters was selected to the Eastern Conference Midseason All-NBA G League team.

While the G League’s season was cut short, the NBA will soon begin its reboot in Orlando at the end of July. Waters will be eligible to play, as the league expanded its roster capacity to 17.
